Although we encourage applicants to apply online, we are still accepting paper applications.

You can submit paper applications via fax at (650) 508-6458, in person, or by mail to SamTrans Human Resources, 1250 San Carlos Avenue, San Carlos, CA 94070.

Incomplete or improperly completed online applications or paper applications may be rejected even if you are qualified for the position for which you are applying. It is your responsibility to ensure that the online application or paper application reflects the work experience and education needed to meet the requirements for the position(s) you are applying for. Although your resume may have all your experience and education details, please make sure to complete each section of the online application or paper application to ensure that your information is accurately captured during our screening process.

Whether applying online or with a paper application, your completed application package must be received by the District’s Human Resources Department by the specified deadline to receive consideration. Paper applications must be received by the Human Resources Department by 4:30 pm on the application deadline date. The paper application package includes the District’s Employment Application and an Affirmative Action Questionnaire. Online applications must be submitted prior to midnight on the application deadline date. You may call 650-508-6308 to verify that your application has been received.

Selection process

The District uses a variety of tools to assess the applicant’s qualifications. All application packages will be reviewed to determine the qualifications of the applicant for the position. Depending upon the position, the District may require written examinations, computerized testing, video or hands-on testing, or other skill assessment methods. Medical examinations are required for positions that require a commercial driver’s license. Applicants for positions designated as "Safety Sensitive" will be required to take a pre-employment drug test.

Applicants whose qualifications most closely match the needs of the District for the position may be invited to interview with a screening and selection panel.

    The San Mateo County Transit District provides medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage to all regular employees. Spouses or domestic partners and other family members of employees are eligible for coverage. For new employees medical, dental and vision coverage is effective the first of the month following the employee’s date of regular employment.

    The Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 1574 AFL-CIO, represents Bus Operators, Mechanics, Utility Workers, Storeskeepers, and several classifications of employees in the Customer Service Center. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 856, represents Bus Transportation Supervisors, Dispatchers, Radio Controllers and Bus Contract Inspectors.
